KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Tuesday was the deadline to file for this year’s state, county and township primary elections.
There will be no primaries for Kalamazoo County-based Michigan House seats. The three incumbents will all face an opponent from the other party in November, but no one filed to challenge their place on the ballot.
That’s not the story in the 66th district in Van Buren County, where incumbent Aric Nesbitt is term-limited and can’t run again. Three Republicans and two Democrats have filed to fill the vacancy. Statewide, one-third of House incumbents face primary challenges this year.
Only two Kalamazoo County commission incumbents will not be running for reelection. Board Chairperson John Taylor will instead challenge incumbent Kalamazoo County Clerk Tim Snow. Board Vice Chairperson Jeff Heppler will run against Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller this November.
We can project our first winners already: Kalamazoo County Drain Commissioner Pat Crowley, Surveyor Gary Hahn and Commissioner John Geisler are unopposed in both the primary and the general elections.
