UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — The frontrunners had a good night at the polls last night in five primaries on the east coast.
Hilary Clinton won four of five states and Donald Trump had a sweep.
Western Michigan University political science professor John Clark said the only reason Bernie Sanders may still be in the race is because campaign finance laws and technology make it possible for him to collect money over the internet, which has been very productive for his organization. He can still afford to run.
He may also still be running because he may want to have some influence on the party platform at the convention.
Clark said Clinton only needs to win 20 percent of the delegates remaining to secure the nomination. Sanders only win was in tiny Rhode Island.
Clark says it’s also looking more like it’s all over on the Republican side, especially now that the deal between Ted Cruz and John Kasich to tag team on three upcoming states has fallen apart.
Clark always thought it was an awkward thing to begin with.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump became the only Republican with a mathematical chance of winning enough delegates to avoid a floor fight at the convention, and after the sweep, stands a better chance of actually pulling it off.
