VICKSBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – UPDATE – There are new details about an investigation concerning inappropriate text messages sent to a former student at Vicksburg Community Schools.
Previously, police were investigating allegations of the text messages, which were said to have been sent to a former student over the summer.
In an update from WWMT Tuesday, it was reported that the sender is alleged to be a Portage police detective. The detective is accused of sending inappropriate messages to a 17-year-old girl, who was not a student at the time.
He is said to have met the former student while working as a coach for the school district. Officials say Michigan State Police were informed about the situation after receiving an anonymous tip.
At this time, the detective is on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues. School officials say the detective has not been on the campus all year, and is now banned from the grounds.
This is an ongoing matter and will be updated as more details become available.
