KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — City commissioners want to know what Kalamazoo residents think their city should look like in 2025 and have launched a year-long effort to come up with a plan to get there.
It’s called “Imagine Kalamazoo” and commissioners held a special work session Wednesday to get an update.
City Planner Laura Lam said they have already gathered comments from over 1,100 residents by holding meetings with groups and setting up opportunities at ArtHops and other events in the last few months.
Concerns were expressed that the meetings were not a true random samples of whole community.
Lam said a more-traditional and scientific survey is scheduled for this summer. It’s not an effort to predict the future, but rather shape the future in ways that can help the city change in ways to make it more productive, livable and attractive.
They are aiming for a finished report next spring.
