BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority has donated a house to the Battle Creek Fire Department, which the firefighting agency will use as a permanent training site.
The department will improve its rescue and firefighting skills at the home in the 200 block of Parrish Street, which is near the city’s downtown area.
“They can simulate window rescues and they’ll be able to stage all kinds of more-effective training rather than crawl around in some bay at the fire department,” Christine Schauer, the chairperson of the Calhoun County Land Bank Authority, said on Thursday.
Schauer also said her agency has made similar donations in the past.
“Just last year, the Battle Creek Fire Department used 15 about land bank-owned houses for training, and they were able to train about 75 firefighters,” Schauer said.
Exercises have already begun at the site.
