LANSING (WKZO-AM) — House lawmakers are expecting quick Senate passage of a bill that would create an Amber Alert-style system notifying communities when an active shooter is on the loose.
Rep. Brandt Iden, R-Oshtemo, said local legislators on both ends of the political spectrum are working hard to push the legislation forward, even after House passage Tuesday.
“I’ll be working with the chairman to hopefully get a committee meeting very soon and then continue to fast-track this as best I can,” Iden said. “I’ve got good support on the Senate side with our local delegation.”
Rep. Jon Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo appreciates the bipartisanship.
“Turns out Rep. Iden and I were on the same track, so we combined some of our ideas,” Hoadley said. “His staff has been amazing to work with.”
Hoadley is expecting Senate passage by June. Iden thinks it could reach the governor’s desk before then.
