ALLEGAN (WKZO-AM) — A Wayland man is being held on $250,000 bond following arraignment on charges that he was responsible for causing a fatal crash early Saturday morning.
Investigators claim 58-year-old Dale Melick was intoxicated when he nearly sideswiped a tribal officer from the Gun Lake Casino, then sped away from an Allegan County Sheriff’s deputy, crashing into a car on 135th Street. The wreck killed one passenger and injured two others.
Melick, according to investigators, flipped his own car into a ditch, resulting in his capture.
Melick has been charged with one count of drunken driving causing death and two counts of drunken driving causing injury.
Dead is Jemimah Palsce, 37, of Albuquerque, NM. Scott Foster, 58, remains in serious condition and Barbara Foster, 57, is in critical condition.
Melick faces up to 15 years if convicted on the most-serious charge.
