PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — A 16-year-old boy and two adults from Chicago are in custody for passing counterfeit cash at multiple Kalamazoo County businesses.
Investigators say two men, a 27-year-old and a 26-year-old, were arrested in the 1800 block of Vanderbilt Avenue late Thursday after attempting to purchase items using the fake bills at the Walmart on Shaver Road, but the teenager bolted from the scene. A track using police dogs was unsuccessful.
The child was found early Friday in Joilet, Ill. He was driving a car stolen from the 1700 block of Vanderbilt Avenue. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Portage before 1 a.m. Friday.
A fourth suspect, an 18-year-old from Chicago, was questioned and released.
