BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Careless smoking is currently being blamed for sparking a residential fire that damaged the outside of a home in Battle Creek and sent one man to the hospital.
Battle Creek firefighters responded to a call just before 10 a.m. Saturday. They managed to get to the home on Caroline Street in time to prevent the flames from entering the interior of the structure.
The flames spread up the outside of the two-story home, damaging the siding and the roof. By that time all the occupants of the home had gotten out.
One occupant suffered minor burns to their arm. Minor smoke damage was discovered inside.
Despite the quick response, investigators estimate the damage at about $10,000.
