KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Former Kalamazoo state representative Lorence Wenke is running for Congress as a Libertarian, hoping to unseat incumbent Fred Upton.
“I’m 70 years old and I still want to fix the world,” Wenke said.
If elected, Wenke said he’ll focus on the national debt, welfare reform and government management.
“The people that we elect usually don’t have management skills, and being a good manager is a lot like being a good athlete — either you have it or you don’t,” Wenke said. “So, we need to elect people and hire people with management skills.”
The owner of Wenke Greenhouses left the Republican Party two years ago in part due to the GOP’s opposition to gay rights.
