PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP (WTVB-AM) — Flames shot through the roof of a three-story apartment building at the Pines of Pennfield complex on the north side of Battle Creek Wednesday morning.
The blaze was reported just before 9:00 a.m.
Pennfield firefighters got assistance from Battle Creek, Bedford Township and Anna Township crews.
Reports indicate all of the residents have been accounted for.
It’s not known how the fire started.
A spokesperson at the Pennfield Fire Department said one person suffered burns and was taken to a nearby hospital. The severity of the burns was not known.
A cat and a dog were also rescued.
Multiple media outlets have reported that a mother had to throw her one-year-old son off a third-floor balcony to several people on the ground in order to save him from the flames.
The American Red Cross has been called in to assist those who have been affected by the fire.
