PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — Van Buren County has agreed to pay $75,000 to the family of 16-year-old Ethan Jelsomeno who was critically injured when his parent’s car was struck by a speeding sheriff’s cruiser.
Dep. Todd Oliver was racing to a crime scene that had been assigned to another car last March.
The dashcam video shows his car speeding down West Kalamazoo Street in Bloomingdale into a setting sun when he dodged to the left of a car that suddenly turned into his path and the two collided.
Oliver was suspended following the wreck.
It was the second time in two years he had crashed a cruiser in similar circumstances.
The family sued and have now reportedly agreed to settle.
