LANSING (WKZO-AM)– Attorney General Bill Schuette joined other prosecutors, sending a letter to Gov. Rick Snyder asking him to suspend independent internal investigations into the Flint Water Crisis.
Schuette said those who were interviewed may be interfering with tcriminal investigations.
The prosecutor in Genesee County and U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade are also making the request. They say those other probes, including one by the Michigan State Police, “may effectively be an obstruction of justice.”
In some of the probes, employees were compelled under risk of termination to talk about what happened and the mistakes that were made. They were also told they would not be prosecuted for what they said.
Those statements may not be admissible in court, but they may be available to law enforcement.
That puts those employees in an awkward position when questioned on what they can say and what they can’t.
There were five official investigations taking place, a few that have already concluded.
Schuette keynoted Thursday night’s Lincoln Day Dinner, sponsored by the Kalamazoo County Republican Party. He talked to WKZO-AM after the event.
