PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A student at Pennfield Middle School is in serious condition at Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo after the 12-year-old was struck by a car crossing Pennfield Road, at about 4:30 Friday afternoon after classes had ended for the week.
The car then hit a tree.
The name of the girl has not been released. Several witnesses say she ran into the path of the vehicle and was thrown in the air by the impact of the collision, landing on the pavement.
They immediately called 9-1-1. She was airlifted to Kalamazoo because of the seriousness of her injuries.
The driver suffered minor injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
