ALLEGAN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A 53-year-old Kalamazoo man is sitting in the Allegan County Jail this Memorial Day weekend after leading Michigan State Police on a high-speed chase Saturday afternoon.
The suspect was pulled over at about 2:20 p.m. on 10th Street in Wayland Township for disobeying a stop sign and defective equipment. The suspect, who was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, bolted from the stop and troopers followed in pursuit.
At one point during the chase as the fleeing vehicle slowed to turn a corner, a 45-year-old woman bailed out of the front passenger door. Desperate to escape, the driver turned off M-222 and tried to drive through a wooded area. The vehicle got stuck and he fled on foot.
A K9 tracked him down and he was arrested and booked for fleeing and eluding, resisting and for the felony warrant for operating a meth lab.
The woman who leapt from his car was treated for a broken collarbone, as well as scrapes and bruises.
