KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A total of six people were arrested on Thanksgiving Day in two stolen vehicle incidents in Kalamazoo, with one resulting in a crash.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says they observed a stolen vehicle in the area of Alcott Street and Portage Road. While initiating a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, causing a pursuit of the stolen car. Public Safety says they terminated the pursuit a short time later for the safety of the general public, but the vehicle soon crashed near the intersection of Portage Road and Kilgore.
A City of Portage police officer was near by and able to take the driver of the stolen vehicle into custody without further incident.
A 39 year old Kalamazoo resident was arrested on multiple felony charges and is lodged at the Kalamazoo County jail awaiting arraignment.
Also on Thursday, a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer observed a stolen vehicle in the 800 block of West Walnut Street.
Several juveniles were observed immediately running from the stolen vehicle into the neighborhood. A police K9 responded to the scene along with numerous officers to assist with a search of the area.
Through the investigation, five juveniles were located and arrested in conjunction with the stolen car. The KDPS says they are being referred to the juvenile court system.
