PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — A Watervliet man who was said to be extremely intoxicated spent the night in the Van Buren County Jail drying out after smashing into two separate occupied vehicles miles apart Thursday.
The first crash left the other driver with a broken leg. His vehicle was struck by a man in a dark-colored SUV at Red Arrow Highway and 50th Street. The suspect vehicle fled the scene after the wreck.
Sheriff’s deputies were alerted. Soon after, a deputy saw the same dark-colored SUV smash into the back of a Pontiac Grand Prix. That second victim, an 83-year-old woman, was not injured, but her car suffered considerable damage.
They claim the 53-year-old suspect had a blood alcohol count that was four times over legal limit and had also been taking prescription pain drugs.
They were looking for other vehicles he might have hit too, judging from the damge to his SUV.
