KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — GasBuddy.com says the average price for a gallon of regular in Michigan has spiked to $2.58.
Compared to Thursday, the statewide average is up 12 cents.
“That means we’ve also seen some stations go as high as 20 cents a gallon,” Gregg Laskoski, an analyst with the website, said on Friday.
Laskoski blames the increase on the required transition to cleaner-burning summer blend fuel and a rally in the price of wholesale gas.
“The Chicago wholesale prices are up about eight cents from where we were earlier this week,” Laskoski said.
Gas is selling for about $2.61 in Kalamazoo, $2.62 in Lansing and $2.63 in Grand Rapids — all up at least 20 cents since Thursday. Prices in Kalamazoo are up around 24 cents.
