INGHAM COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Expelled State Representative Cindy Gamrat, R-Plainwell, will not be tried for crimes after all. That’s not the case for Todd Courser, R-Lapeer, who has been ordered to stand trial for misconduct in office and perjury.
Judge Hugh Clark has ruled Gamrat did not appear to be aware of the bizarre cover-up allegedly attempted by Courser to conceal the fact that the two had had a romantic affair, despite running on a family values platform and being staunchly conservative married Christians.
The judge also dropped two charges of misconduct in office against Courser, but sent the two other counts he faced to the Ingham County Circuit Court for trial.
Attorney General Bill Schuette said he won’t appeal the decision that lets Gamrat off the hook, but may appeal the two Courser charges that were dismissed.
Courser’s attorney said they are also considering an appeal.
