KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller isn’t anticipating prosecutors to cut a plea deal with the 50-year-old accused of driving a truck into a group of cyclists in Cooper Township.
Fuller expects Charles Pickett Jr. of Battle Creek to face his five second-degree murder charges and other felonies at trial.
“This could be a court case that could take a little while because it’s so involved,” Fuller said.
It’s still not clear what prompted the wreck that left five dead and four injured. Fuller said that specific information will come out in court.
“While everyone wants to know what’s going on, the court process has to take place in a way that’s not going to interfere with court,” Fuller said. “So, if we were to start talking about certain aspects of the case right now, it’s going to interfere with court.”
Pickett’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 29. His bond was denied last week.
