KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — In a touching, funny and sometimes emotional celebration, the Kalamazoo community gathered at Miller Auditorium to say goodbye to Dr. Charles Warfield on Friday.
He was honored as a mentor, an educator, a brother, an elder, a community leader and a friend.
Warfield was saluted as a tireless worker who never wavered from doing what was right during his long career. Warfield also was saluted as a man who touched the poorest among us but also impressed the greats, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who was among the speakers.
While it was universally expressed that he will be missed and cannot be replaced, it was also repeated often that it’s important that his work go on, with all of us encouraging young minorities to achieve and lead.
