GALESBURG (WKZO-AM) — Hazmat crews are working to clean a suspected acetate spill after a semitrailer overturned on Interstate 94 near Galesburg.
It happened at around 7 a.m. Thursday, prompting a shutdown of the eastbound lanes of the freeway. Traffic at around 8 a.m. was backed up to South Westnedge Avenue, roughly 10 miles away in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas said there were no serious injuries reported, though one victim was trapped inside their vehicle.
Matyas was uncertain about what specifically caused the wreck.
The incident remains under investigation.
UPDATE – 6/23 at 9:40 a.m.: A second overturned semitrailer has been reported on Interstate 94 near Sprinkle Road and Cork Street.
Traffic is being diverted at Exit 80. Traffic is also said to be backed up in the area.
