KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo reverend has published an online petition, requesting that people and businesses boycott the Battle Creek Bombers after the team held a promotion Friday allowing fans to bring their guns to the ballpark.
“Second Amendment Education Night” occurred days after Orlando’s mass-shooting, where 49 were shot dead, and months after a shooting spree in Kalamazoo left six dead and two others wounded.
“It’s about the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,” Rev. Nathan Dannison with the downtown First Congregational Church said on Monday. “I say that not only because I’m a minister, but I’m also a gun-owner.”
“These guys are making it impossible to have a rational conversation,” Dannison said.
His petition has around 350 signatures as of Monday morning.
“We want to see some kind of statement from the league or the management saying that, going forward, they’re not going to pull this kind of stuff ever again,” Dannison said.
He says it will remain posted until the team or the Northwoods League takes action.
