KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Several locations throughout Kalamazoo County have begun their annual “Meet Up and Eat Up” programs.
The program kept around 100,000 area children fed last year.
Spokesperson Susan Livingston says it ensures underprivileged kids get their nutritional needs met while school is out. It also provides a safe place or all children.
“The ‘Meet Up and Eat Up’ is summer lunches, summer breakfasts and summer snacks depending on your location,” Livingston said. “A lot of us are doing activities in addition to that.”
All area school districts are taking part. Most locations will offer the meals until the start of the new school year.
Meals will be provided to parents for $2, Livingston said.
Those who would like a listing of “Meet Up and Eat Up” locations are urged to text “FOOD MI” to 877877 or call United Way’s 211 line. They can also contact Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes at (269) 488-2617.
