EAU CLAIRE (WKZO-AM — The Krause family reasserted their dominance at the Annual International Cherry Pit Spitting Contest in Eau Claire this weekend.
Rick “Pellet Gun” Krause, who is the “Michael Phelps” of the odd sport won this year’s event for the 16th time, with his son, Brian “Young Gun” Krause coming in second.
Brian is also a past champion.
Last year it was won by a local man, Kevin Bartz of Niles.
The winning spit this year was 48-feet 2-1/2 inches, well off the record set by Brian Krause, at 93 feet, 6½ inches in 2003.
It was the 43nd year for what has become a 4th of July weekend tradition at the Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm in Southwest Michigan.
A member of the Krause family has won 27 of them.
