KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — They don’t know how big it will be or what it will look like yet, but Kalamazoo city commissioners have agreed to put a statue of Abraham Lincoln near the center of Bronson Park.
It’s a project that has had its share of stops and starts since it was first pitched to city hall in 2013 and given conceptual approval. Cameron Brown, who chairs the Lincoln Project Steering Committee, thanked commissioners, telling them that the site approval will make fundraising easier.
He says “we have a gift of history, and we want to use it for the benefit of the community”. It will be privately funded.
They will have to get final commission approval on the design and size of the statue before they will be allowed to put it in the park.
No timeframe was mentioned.
