LAPEER COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette waited until the deadline to re-file one of the charges against disgraced former state lawmaker Todd Courser, R-Lapeer, who was involved in a sex scandal and cover-up with another lawmaker last year.
One of the four original charges filed against Courser was dropped by an Ingham County judge — not because there was no evidence, but because the alleged crime did not occur in Ingham County.
Schuette claimed that Courser illegally solicited an aide to participate in a cover-up of his sexual relationship with former state representative Cindy Gamrat, R-Plainwell.
The misconduct in office charge has been refiled in Lapeer County, where Courser lives and the crime allegedly occurred.
It’s a five year felony. Courser still faces two charges in Ingham County.
The same judge dismissed both charges against Gamrat. That decision apparently will not be challenged by the attorney general.
