VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Only six of the remaining 108 dogs that were found at the Lawrence home of a couple accused of animal hoarding have yet to be placed.
It took ten officers eight hours to remove the dogs, eight cats and a horse from the residence in the 56000 block of 52nd Avenue last month.
Last week, the dogs were sent to animal shelters and rescue operations throughout the state. Sheriff’s deputies are anticipating the remaining dogs at the Van Buren County shelter to be placed by the end of the week.
Melissa Copen, 45, and Donald Smith, 40, were both charged with felonies. Both are free on bond.
