ST. JOSEPH (WKZO-AM) — Berrien County’s Prosecutor says Larry Gordon, the Coloma man who killed two bailiffs at the Berrien County Jail on Monday, was facing kidnap, rape and 14 other charges and up to life in prison if convicted of the most-serious offenses.
Prosecutor Michael Sepic said Gordon was accused of holding a 17-year-old girl against her will in a locked shed for two weeks, assaulting her with weapons and his hands, trading meth for sex and videotaping it.
Police discovered what was going on when they tried to arrest Gordon on an outstanding domestic violence charge. Gordon was also under investigation for a similar assault on a 16-year-old.
Gordon’s ex-wife said he was very afraid of going back to prison and that may have been the motivation for his escape attempt.
Officials say he grabbed a deputy’s gun, killing two and wounding two others before he was shot and killed. Gordon was actually at the court on Monday to have those original domestic violence charges dropped when he decided to make his attempt at escape.
