ST. JOSEPH (WKZO-AM) — The Berrien County Courthouse will reopen to the public Thursday after staff returned to the building Wednesday.
Grief counselors were on hand on Wednesday. Offenders and others who had court dates this week will be allowed to reschedule without fear of bench warrants.
Berrien County Deputy James Atterberry Jr. is doing his healing at home after he was discharged from Lakeland Medical Center on Wednesday. He was one of four victims shot Monday by an inmate attempting escape.
Funeral plans for the two bailiffs that did not survive Monday’s shootings have been announced.
Visitation for 61-year-old Joseph Zangaro will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Starks and Menchinger Chapel on Niles Road in St. Joseph. A celebration of life service will be held at the Mendel Center on the Lake Michigan College campus Friday at 1 p.m.
Visitation for 63-year-old Ronald Kienzel will be held Sunday at the Starks and Menchinger Chapel on Niles Road from 1 to 5 p.m. His funeral service will be held at the Mendel Center at 1 p.m. on Monday.
