KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — After Public Safety expressed concerns, hundreds turned out for a peaceful ‘Black Lives Matter’ rally in Downtown Kalamazoo Friday evening.
It started with a rally in Bronson Park that turned into a march and briefly shut down the Kalamazoo Mall, as the marchers chanted.
Public Safety did not intervene and after 15-minutes they moved on.
Public Safety expressed concern when the social media chatter began buzzing about the group getting more aggressive in their tactics, but City Commissioner Shannon Sykes addressed that at the outset, says it was going to be a peaceful protest.
The Rev. B. Jo Ann Mundy kicked off the rally saying it’s not only about cops killing blacks, it’s also about graduation rates, and cancer death rates and birth rates. She says black lives matter there too, and need to be addressed.
They plan more events saying their work has just begun.
