ORIGINAL STORY:
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Two teenagers are being treated at Borgess Medical Center for multiple life-threatening injuries after their car left the pavement in the 9800 block of North 32nd Street in Richland Township, and crashed into a group of trees at 2:20 a.m. Monday
One is from Augusta and the other is from Kalamazoo. Their names have not been released.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pauli Matyas said the victims had to be pried out of the wreckage. Both were taken to the emergency room, where the driver was listed in serious condition and the passenger in critical shape.
He says they are investigating to try and determine what caused their vehicle to crash.
More teenagers die in traffic crashes during the summer months than any other time of the year. Studies show that, in 60 percent of the cases, distracted driving is the cause.
