EAST LANSING, MI — There may be a Christmas tree shortage in Michigan this year. Michigan State University horticulture professor Bert Cregg says it’s because many growers quit the business during the Great Recession in 2008 and others have not been able to meet the demand.
The MSU professor says while growers will have plenty of trees available, there will be some heights in a few tree types that will be hard to find. Fewer artificial trees will also be available due to issues in the supply chain.
Mid-Michigan Christmas tree farms like Star TRee Farm in Mason and Peacock Road Family Farm in Laingsburg report and a good selection of home grown trees and Christmas decorations. Most Christmas tree farms will open the Friday after Thanksgiving.
