KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety has a suspect in custody for a home invasion and an assault on the east side.
Officers were dispatched just before 8:00 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 800 block of Gull Road on a report of a home invasion. The victim told officers that a male had entered the home armed with a handgun and assaulted the occupant. They left after the incident.
A few hours later, officers on foot patrol near Candlewyck Drive learned of the location of the 42-year-old suspect and took him into custody without incident.
The handgun believed to be used in the assault was recovered from the suspect’s apartment.
He was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail for home invasion, assault and a couple of gun felonies and will be held there until his arraignment on Monday. The motive for the assault has not been divulged.
