KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The First Day Shoe Fund will be holding an annual shoe giveaway for low-income Kalamazoo Public Schools students on Tuesday.
Executive Director John Curran says KPS students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade on the free or reduced lunch program are eligible for a free pair of athletic shoes. It’ll take place from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Maple Street Magnet School For The Arts, 922 W. Maple St.
Curran says those sneakers were snatched up quickly in 2015.
“Last year at this particular event, we did almost 500,” Curran said. “I’m hoping to do about the same this year.”
In total, 4,300 pairs were given away during the prior school year.
