KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Southwest Michigan First says it’s pleased Portage is taking steps toward passing tax cuts for Pfizer’s proposed $140 million manufacturing facility.
Chief Executive Officer Ron Kitchens said the accommodations for the pharmaceutical giant make the region more attractive to all businesses.
“This is still the most-competitive, best place to bring new product lines,” Kitchens said. “It’s also still the place to get highly-talented people.”
He also said the move will help Pfizer dig its roots deeper into southwest Michigan.
“As Pfizer has indicated, this is not the final announcement,” Kitchens said. “We continue to work on major projects with them.”
The company is asking for a 50 percent break on local taxes for the new facility.
