KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo has reached a mediated settlement with Rev. Nathan Dannison, who had threatened to sue over his treatment, following his involvement in the Proud Boys clash last year.
Dannison organized the counter protest that day, which resulted in a confrontation, despite his call for a peaceful demonstration. Dannison was harshly critical of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety for not being there to prevent the violence.
Dannison claimed the City Manager’s decision not to renew his membership in the Citizens Public Safety Review and Appeals Board was retaliation and a violation of his free speech. The City Manager denies it was any such thing.
City Attorney Clyde Robinson says Dannison waives all rights to future action.
The city admits there were mistakes made that day, but they are officially calling this one a regrettable misunderstanding.
Dannison stepped down from his post as Senior Pastor at the First Congregational Church downtown last spring.
