KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A report is overdue on the death of James Dunigan of Kalamazoo, who died in police custody in early May.
His death was partly documented on a disturbing police video.
The video shows that the public safety officers that transported Dunigan from Bronson Methodist Hospital to the Kalamazoo County Jail were not sensitive to his condition and may have made assumptions that contributed to his death at the jail.
A warning: The video, which is above, can be difficult to watch.
City Commissioner Shannon Sykes said during the Kalamazoo City Commission meeting on Monday that they were promised a report some time ago and she is disappointed they haven’t receieved it yet.
Chief Jeff Hadley gave an interim report to the commission last month. They may be waiting on lab reports, which can take a long time.
