KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation says the 2016 summer construction season is nearing its end in the Kalamazoo area.
The agency will also be getting a jump-start on a 2017 project before the snow starts falling.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa said workers are putting finishing touches on U.S. 131 through Portage and the Interstate 94 interchange in Galesburg. They’re also working on a minor project on the U.S. 131 business loop into downtown Kalamazoo.
“There’s still some stuff that’s going to be out there for a couple of months, but, yeah, we’re getting close,” Schirripa said.
But he also said workers will get an early start on an I-94 resurfacing project next month, which will link work done last year at Sprinkle Road with work done this year at 40th Street.
“We’ll get a couple months of paving done, then we’ll pull up stakes and move out for the winter,” Schirripa said. “We’ll come back in the spring and finish it up.”
Schrippa said the agency will release more information on that project soon.
