COMSTOCK (WKZO-AM) — They weren’t there for the beer.
While state lawmakers wrestle over energy reform in Lansing, a few of them visited Bell’s Brewery in Comstock to see how they have dealt with the price of energy. The company has built a number of energy efficiencies into their processes and installed an anaerobic digester at their plant site.
The process converts the organic waste created by the brewing process into heat and electricity by using bacteria to turn the material into methane. That gas then can be burned to create heat.
Several local lawmakers took the tour earlier this week.
