BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Police say they are investigating the shooting of an 18-year-old male who was shot in the head late Sunday afternoon in the 500 block of West Jackson Street.
They found the teenager with a single gunshot wound to his head just after 5:00 p.m.. He was alive but unresponsive and was taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
After being stabilized there, the unidentified shooting victim was transferred to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
While officers were at the shooting scene, they saw a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop.
The car stopped at first but as an officer told them to shut off the car, it sped off.
A chase took place going west on Dickman Road, until the vehicle lost control, crashed and rolled into a ditch near the railroad tracks, just outside of Augusta. No injuries were reported.
Police arrested the four men in the vehicle, and took them back to the station for interviews.
The driver faces fleeing and eluding charges. The two backseat passengers face a concealed weapon in auto charge for having a gun in the car.
The front passenger was not facing charges as of Sunday night. Police detectives continue to investigate the shooting, and potential connections to the men from the car chase. Anyone with information should call police at 269-781-0911, or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
