KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation says work will begin next month on a season-spanning resurfacing project on Interstate 94.
Work will span 15 lane miles from Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo to just west of South 40th Street in Galesburg.
“We’re looking at starting at around Sept. 26 this year,” Nick Schirripa, a spokesperson with MDOT, said. “We will pull up and get out in mid-November when the winter starts to set in and the asphalt plants shut down.”
Schirripa said the aim of the $5.8 million project is to make the drive down the freeway a little less bumpy.
“It’s a short-term fix that keeps the surface of the road in good condition,” Schirripa said.
Work will resume in April 2017. Schirripa says drivers can expect nighttime lane closures when the project starts.
