KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Wednesday was a ‘Day of Play’ for Jeter’s Leaders, for the 120 kids who signed up for Derek Jeter’s annual baseball camp and the hundreds who turned out for a Nickelodeon sponsored event.
And there was a special surprise as Jeter himself appeared, unannounced to give them a pep talk. The kids were thrilled to see him.
Todd Smith who organized the Baseball Clinic says it’s not just about the game, it’s also about promoting healthy behaviors, academics and warning them to avoid drugs.
The clinic took place at Homer Stryker Field. The Nickelodeon party was at the Expo Center.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell was also at the Nickelodeon event and got slimed.
The now retired New York Yankee has continued to promote organizations in Kalamazoo, New York and Florida that encourages kids to live better lives.
