KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) –It has become an annual tradition on the weekend before classes begin at Western. Students gather in the hundreds for impromptu outdoor parties in the student neighborhoods just west of the WMU Campus.
The gatherings can also attract unsavory elements and high school aged partiers.
This weekend while there were no major incidents with unruly crowds, there were a few individuals who stepped over the line.
Among them was a man waving a gun near Greenwood and Redwood Avenue early Sunday morning.
An officer who was doing crowd control spotted the man pointing the gun at several people, the young male pointed it directly at the officer, turned and ran.
Other officers responded to the officer’s radio call for assistance and busted the offender, an 18-year-old from Centreville for felonious assault on an officer, resisting and three gun charges.
