LANSING (WKZO-AM) — It’s already against the law to text while driving in Michigan.
Now a bill is being introduced by Rep. Martin Howrylak that would make it an offence to drive and use a hand held phone for anything.
Only dash mounted phones would be allowed, and then only for simple calls.
A first offence would be a $250 fine, a second offence would double the fine and add a point against your license. Subsequent tickets would be $500 and two points.
The real challenge may be getting the bill through both houses of the legislature before the end of the year with so few sessions left, and so much else on the agenda.
