KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Bogus $100, $50 and $20 bills have now appeared all over southern Michigan that clearly read “for motion picture use only” on the front.
The bills appear to be close enough to the real thing that, if the person passing the funny money distracts the cashier in some way, they usually miss the difference.
The warning that it is prop money is printed in the same font and in the same location that “The United States of America” is printed on real $100 bills. It appears at different locations on other bills.
Kalamazoo Public Safety has just issued a news release warning merchants that someone may be passing the bills locally. They have just received four complaints.
Detectives are suggesting businesses ask their cashiers to take a hard look at any bill that’s $20 or more, specifically to look for that movie warning.
It’s not just Kalamazoo. The fake movie money has been passed all over the U.S. in the past year or two.
Anyone can buy stacks of the movie money on the internet.
