KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Most go to Bronson Park hunting for Pokemon.
A few go hunting for cell phones. A teen who snatched a cell phone and sped away on a bike Wednesday evening just before 6:00 was foiled, because the victim was able to go on another phone and quickly inform Public Safety.
The victim gave them a good description of the thief.
There were a number of officers in the area, and one of them spotted the fleeing teen and gave chase.
The 15-year-old suspect tried to take a short cut through several yards but didn’t get far before falling off the bike.
He continued to flee on foot, tossing the phone onto North Park where it was run over by a car.
The suspect was eventually chased down, and it was discovered he had just been released from custody in the past few days for a similar crime. The bike also turned out to be stolen.
