BABIUS TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Deputies in St. Joseph County have released the name of the man from Indiana who fell out of his small fishing boat on East Clear Lake in St. Joseph County at about 4 p.m. Friday.
They say 55-year-old Clarence Payne of Highland, Indiana drowned.
Witnesses say they saw the man fall from the boat and struggle in the water before going under.
They could not get to him in time.
He apparently wasn’t wearing a life preserver. It took about an hour to pull his body out of 8 feet of water.
Resuscitation efforts were begun but were not successful.
