WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO-AM) — U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow says she feels confident Fort Custer will beat out facilities in Ohio and New York for a proposed eastern missile defense site.
The Democrat said the Department of Defense has completed its environmental impact report for the site.
“Their assessment showed minimal impacts at our site, but the other two sites had additional work that they wanted to go back and do,” Stabenow said.
But she also warned that no decision has been made yet on whether to actually construct the facility.
“There’s a tremendous amount of work to do to find a location and make a recommendation before Congress would make the final decision,” Stabenow said.
Stabenow was one of 15 members of Michigan’s congressional delegation to sign a letter of support mailed to the Missile Defense Agency on Monday.
