KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety was able to prevent damage to Jack’s Party Store on East Stockbridge Avenue, even though an apartment attached to it caught fire just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.
First officers on the scene heard someone screaming from an apartment on the second floor.
They managed to get a ladder to the base of the window and rescue that citizen. A search of the building discovered a second tenant in an upstairs apartment who was also rescued.
It took about a half-hour to put out the fire.
The news release from public safety claims the business was not damaged.
The fire was contained to one of the apartments and a section of the roof. They are looking for the cause.
